Door signs

This fall I've made door signs for friends. Some of them even needed them. But they're fun to make. The concept of how they're made is curtesy of another friend of mine, Ingrid Riddervold. She makes a lot of other cool stuff as well, which you can buy even. It's all about re-use of old things, paricularly vintage and retro fabrics. I recommend taking a look at her webpage.

Oh, and you'll find the actual making of the door signs here.

And my versions (made during two different rounds):

And if any of you door sign owners  don't want your name shown on the pics, just let me know, and I'll modify them not to show your names.

Finally, let's end with a question:
What kind of door sign do you have? And which of the door signs above is your favorite?

My ultimate Svalbard souvenir

In January I started crocheting.
I have always been very good at falling asleep during lectures, and the UNIS-lectures on Svalbard were no exception. I used to knit a lot, but for some reason I stopped. Probably because I was no good at it, and most of what I made didn't look very nice. Crocheting I found, was much easier. And faster. So I started making granny squares back in January, so as to not fall asleep during lectures (the lecture topics can be very interesting, but that doesn't stop me from falling asleep, I need to keep my hands busy).

In June, when I left Svalbard, I had finished all the squares, 216 in total. During the summer I have done the tedious work of sowing all the squares together, and a couple of weeks ago I actually finished my monster project, the Svalbard blanket. Hurray!

It's all in wool, and I have tried it out (it's been a cold summer) and I can tell you that it is absolutely lovely to sit under and drink a cup of tea. And I drink a lot of tea these days, with ginger and honey, 'cause I have a cold. Fuck.

And lastly, just to give an impression of the size the blanket. I have never made anything so big before! Yay!

What's the biggest thing you've ever made?

Yellow

I’ve got a thing for yellow now a days. And green and pink; yellow and green and pink. It all feels very summery and feminine and kinda nice.

Bought some work out clothes to try and motivate myself to go to the gym, and hey! It worked! I went the same day to a dance class and shook my arse and my tits ‘til they were sagging twice as much as they normally do, wearing that pink top on the pic above.

Taika/Anorakk-rakk

London recap will come, some time, but not now. I can't be bothered. It's doomed to become a rather long post, involving a lot of my already strained brain capacity. Later, later.

But I'll give you something else, something lighter: Money well spent (in contrast to the money well earned i.e. one could put the whole London affair).

I got a gift certificate at things-for-the-kitchen kind of store for Christmas. I spent it on six mugs from Iittala Taika. They're really pretty and big and lovely and perfect for my many cups of tea I drink a day and finally I have a set of six matching mugs hurray!

I've been drooling over them for a while but they're rather expensive but you can't really let the certificate go to waste either.

I have also recently acquired myself a mountain anorak. Spent my own money on that and even though I didn't really need it, I still needed it. I plan on keeping and wearing and using it for at least twenty years. It's long enough to cover my bum, has many many pockets, a great big hood and a stormstropp, no idea what that is in English, but it's an elastic band you can attach in the back and the front, the band going between your legs and that way, when I go skiing and fall and tumble through the snow, no snow makes it's way up under my jacket and under my jumper making me go iiiiiiihhhh!
The anorak is the model Mårma from Fjällräven.

What have you bought lately? With your money or other money.

Today's remarks / London calling

1.   Ehm, so, yes, well, I can't come to terms with myself as to what this blog should look like, especially what to do about the header. The yellow flower-thingy will do for now. Any ideas for a header my adulterous readers?

2.   I got a call from London today. Not saying anything else for the moment. If things go through I might share the story, if not then you'll just have to use your imagination as to what the call was about my darlings.

3.   Cousin It?! No, just the back of my head....

 4.   My bread bin I bought at a flea market before Christmas but have forgot to blog about until now. Isn't it just goooorgeous? Yes it is.

The ickness of cherry-coloured wood

I hate the colour of our floors. They’re dark. I used to like them but I’ve overdosed on cherry-coloured wood. Ewgh. All the floors (minus the kitchen and the bathroom), three large bookshelves, the telly-table, half of all the clothing hangers, the bed, the nightstands and the bedroom chest of drawers are all made up of cherry-coloured wood.

Icky floor and icky telly-table.

Alright bookshelf but standing on the icky floor it's just not right

I prefer my clothing hangers to be white.

But! I have a plan. I can’t do anything about the floors but save up money and wait until I have enough to buy a new place with light floors. The telly-table is already doomed. It’s too small anyway. The rest, well, we'll see.

I reject your reality and substitute my own

Yes, mine. The flaunting of newly acquired treasures can begin. Newly meaning this summer which now is at an end. I could smell the fall this morning. I think winter will come early this year. (When winter has still not arrived come December, one might find that last prediction modified to "winter will be late this year, fall will be long".)

Shoes and clothing. Second hand and new (notice that I am not saying vintage. More on that later). The grey tassels are attached to a bag that mostly just goes by the name "elephant pouch" or "elephant scrotum".

Oh, baby! How I love these:

Leopardprint wedges. Light as an empty butterbox. My feet have never before worn high heeled shoes as comfortable as these. (The Manfriend I live with hates them. I have to keep telling him that wearing animalprints does not a russian hooker make.) And they make me six feet tall.

Slight redecoration of living quarters has taken place this summer, changing of cushions on couch. Feeling espescially proud considering I have sewn four of the cushion covers myself. The bottom three ones plus the green one with dots. I suspect that Manfriend might find the cushions a wee bit too feminine.
